This is a wonderful Tudor period vellum portrait miniature, painted in oils of a bearded gentleman in a white ruff collar. It had been suggested to me of the resemblance to Sir Francis Walsingham. Queen Elizabeth's "Spymaster". He is wearing a black skull cap, as does Sir Francis, so I am confident this is an original portrait of Sir Francis. The portrait is dark, due to the varnish. It is unresearched and in good antique condition, likely removed from a pendant frame. A nice object worthy of further research!
