Portrait Miniature of a Young Lady Oils Copper Tondo
This is a nice and original early 17th-century portrait miniature, dating to around 1600 - 1620. It is superbly painted with the portrait of a young lady, wearing a cartwheel ruff and jeweled gown. She looks to be Spanish, possibly one of the princesses or nobility. The portrait is very well executed in oils on a strong copper tondo. Such a portrait would have been housed in a gold or silver frame, worn as a symbol or devotion or as a betrothal gift. It is mounted within a period silver gilt case, with gold brocade material insert.
