This is a fabulous late 17th-century portrait miniature of a Lady, she dates to c. 1650 - 1700 A.D. Superbly painted with oils on copper, she is sympathetically framed within a carved and gilt wood surround. Sadly no signature or inscription, to enable research into the artist or sitter. However, she appears to be an English noblewoman, from the period of King Charles II - Queen Anne. The pearls in the hair and the silk dress, can all be seen in contemporary portraits by Lely and Kneller. The portrait fits tightly in the frame with no movement, it has slight paint loss around the edges (hardly noticeable in the frame). A great looking period object.
