This is an exceptional mid 17th-century gold and diamond engagement ring. It is set with seven diamonds, with a high rubbed over setting. The silver bezel decorated with a bead and triangular border compliments the champagne coloured diamonds. The gallery decorated with a green enameled lancet design, with the gold shank also set with green enamel. This type of 'seven stone' diamond ring was popular during the early to mid 17th century. The table cut diamonds are also of an early cut. Diamond rings were used from the mid 16th century for engagement and betrothal rings, this is likely one such early engagement ring from aristocratic circles.
