'Give Us This Day'

A very unusual, Victorian breadboard carved from sycamore. This board dates from c.1860. The centre of the board is quite raised and the border is carved with the words ‘GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD’. There is also a small, Celtic cross. We have not seen this design with the cross before.  The  lettering in the carving is quite ornate and well carved, although now it is well worn with age. The wood has  an attractive, honey coloured  patina and the board  is in excellent condition.
