Crested kitchen utensils.
An interesting set of three large, copper cooking utensils including a basting spoon, a ladle and a round skimmer. These are all superb quality and each one has the same marks. They are marked ‘E. DEHILLERIN 18 RUE COQUILLIERE PARIS’ and they date from c.1870. They also have an engraved mark which is ‘R.L’ over ‘V’ all beneath a crown. It is the crown of a Viscount but I cannot find out which one. It could be either a French or an English Viscount from this period as, although the items were made in France the French manufacturers made copper ware for many of the English aristocracy and also royalty. The three pieces are all made from a very heavy gauge of copper and the have turned ends, shaped like a shepherd’s crook, so that they can hang. The basting spoon is 50cm. long, the ladle is 40cm. long and the skimmer is 56cm. long. Originally they would all have been totally covered in tin, for use, but this has now been removed to reveal the copper beneath. They are all in excellent condition.
