A nineteenth century, French copper chocolate pot. This is well made, from a heavy gauge of copper, and it has castellated seams around the base and up the side. It dates from c.1890. By the way that it is made this could appear to be an earlier piece but the wooden handle is very much in the Arts and Crafts style of the late 19th century. Both the side of the pot and the lid are engraved with the letters “C*M*R*”, which would be the initials of a previous owner, above the number ‘0’. The pot is complete with a wooden stirrer, the handle of which is original, and turned from rosewood, but the end is probably a replacement. The pot is in excellent condition but the tinning, to the interior, is worn.
