A French copper stockpot with a folding steel handle. This type of pot was originally made for use on an open fire. This example is made from a heavy gauge of copper, has castellated seams around the base and up the side, and it dates from c.1860. There is a flat strap handle to the lid, with a heavy copper ring handle, and the folding handle for hanging the post is made from steel. This has large, triangular copper fittings attaching it to the pot. The tin to the interior of the pot is worn and the base is slightly rounded, so it won’t sit flat on a stove, but otherwise it is in good condition.

Dimensions: Height 22.5cm. Diameter 21.cm. Width 28cm.
