A most attractive, 19th century, dark grey marble mortar with a double ended, boxwood pestle. The mortar is 33.5cm. wide by 20cm. high and the pestle is 34cm. long by 6.5cm. diameter on the ends. This is early 19th century, dating from c.1820, and it is very nice quality. The mortar is a very dark grey, with a lighter grey flecking, and it has a good, polished finish.  There are a couple of small chips around the rim, consistent with use. The boxwood pestle has very good colour and patination. There is slight cracking to the wood, again consistent with age and use.
