A nineteenth century, French copper skimmer. This type of skimmer was used for skimming the scum from preserves or stocks. This example is made from a heavy gauge of copper and it dates from c.1870. It has a turned end, shaped like a shepherd’s crook, so that it can hang when not in use. It is in excellent condition.
