A French copper, round bottomed sugar bowl. This bowl does not have any makers marks but it dates from c.1860. It is made from a very heavy gauge of copper, it has a rolled rim and there are large, fixed copper handles to either side. This is quite unusual as the handles were usually made from brass. This type of bowl was for caramellising sugar. They were never tinned for this purpose as the caramellising point of sugar is higher than the melting point of tin. There is some marking to the copper on the interior of the bowl, from use, but generally the bowl is in very good condition.
