A Wedgwood settling pan. This is a most unusual piece of Wedgwoods' white ware and it dates from c.1820. Wedgwood developed his whiteware for making utility pieces for the dairy and kitchen. As they were made for everyday use and, at the time, were not valued, their survival rate was low and they are now quite rare. This piece would have been used for settling the milk in the dairy before skimming off the cream for making cheese. It is an unusual size as it is much smaller and shallower than most. It is in excellent condition.
