Copper Printing Blocks

£395.00 the set. Approx $491.91, €459.84

Code: E17911

An interesting group of seventeen, 19th century, copper printing blocks. These were used for the printing of a book about lace as each one portrays something lace related. Most are lace designs, either borders, collars, or more elaborate panels, and the others show lacemakers at work. The largest is a panel which is made up of tiny human and animal figures, in minute detail, and another of the larger examples is a very fine heraldic crest. They would date from the latter quarter of the 19th century. Each one comprises a thin copper plate attached to an oak block and the copper plates are exceptionally finely detailed. You can see this if you look through the other images. As a group they make a very interesting display. The sizes of the blocks range from the smallest, which is 4.5cm. (1 3/4in) long by 2cm. (3/4in) wide to the largest which is 10cm. (4in) long by 7.5cm. (3in) wide. Each one is 2.5cm. (1in) deep. They are all in excellent condition
