J Nowill Bread Knife

A Victorian steel breadknife with a carved wooden handle. The handle is carved with the word ‘BREAD’ but this is carved around the handle rather than down it. The steel blade bears a manufacturers mark in the form of a crossed key symbol above ‘J NOWILL & SONS SHEFFIELD  ESTABLISHED AD 1***’.  The wooden handle is very well carved,  and the piece dates from c.1880. It is in excellent condition and the blade is still very sharp.
