6570 A plain prussian decanter with a bevelled pear-shape stopper
A good plain 'prussian' decanter with three neck rings and a bevelled pear-shaped stopper. It is devoid of any decoration and holds a full bottle.
Decanters like this were made in large numbers at the opening of the 19th century; most had target or bull's eye stoppers, but a fair number had stoppers like this one which is shaped like a flat inverted pear. Very practical, pouring well and holding a full bottle with plenty of room for the wine to 'breathe', this is many people's idea of the perfect decanter. This one is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips or internal cloudiness.
