6571 A plain 'prussian' decanter with a target stopper
This is perhaps the perfect example of classic antique decanter. It is completely plain - except that it has three rings around the neck to aid grip. It has a target, or 'bull's eye' stopper and holds a full bottle of wine with ease leaving sufficient air above the wine to allow it to 'breathe'.
When Hugh Johnson decided to have reproduction decanters made to sell in his London Shop (in St. James's), this was the model he chose because it not only looks very good on a table or sideboard, but also because it functions perfectly.
This one has no chips or cracks and is in excellent overall condition - only having a few scratches commensurate with its age.
