Amanda Pickett, is the creative behind Picketts House and Clarke Pickett like her father before her Amanda has an undeniable talent for Art & Design. Having worked from a very early age at her parents Antique & Restoration Shop/Workshops, growing up in the foothills of Perthshire, was a kind of magical experience she recalls.
"We would ride our horse's into the Kitchen of the Farmhouse and Mum would ask us to go the workshop to tell Dad that some friend was up from London to see him. We thought this was how everyone's family life was played out, but now realise this to be a very unuusal and Bohemian kind of Life we lived out at the Farmhouse. The characters that would pass through, always very colourful souls which I likened our life to be a kind of Circus, Lots of Laughing/ We woud always have guests staying from all over the world, helping in the business, studying locally or helping my parents look after us kids."
Her Father was a very accomplished Artist from a very young age, " Dad had a handfull of customers, whilst growing up where he would sell his paintings of mainly English Country Scenes for pocket money, he was around Fourteen years old. He then discovered the Guitar and he and his friends from School formed a Band. They had some early success playing alongside musicians like the Who, BB King, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and the Animals, playing venues like the Marquee on the Dean Street & The Cromwellian influential in the Music scene of the 60's."
"Growing up I was always very interested in the Arts." Excellng in Art and Design it was here Amanda honed her skills and craft, desiging and sketching from all the Old Antique & Design Furniture Books in her late father's vast library. I would often find myself skecthing Thomas Hope or Chippendale while the other girls at school were still drawing dress and skirt designs." It would seem that growing up with an innate eye for detail, proportion and scale was always the talk with her father in the workshop and around the dinner table, I guess it was my destiny to follow him in Arts World.
."Simply, I love beautiful things and to create a space together with cleints and proffesionals with a design brief and style that realises someone else's vision, is a very rewarding experience." It is trully what motivates me to get out and find the unique perfect piece for a client."
